Main Character: Name, Class and spec:
Forgestone, Hunter, Survival (and loving it) in BFA (I was MM on Legion and BM is always my sec spec)
Real name and age:
Location and time zone:
West Yorkshire, UK
As a guild we pride ourselves on our friendly community. Tell us a bit about you as a person outside of the game?:
Originally from Lima - Peru, running away from the sun, I moved to England over 15 years ago. I am a graphic designer by day, illustrator by night. Which means I do illustration freelance in my spare time. If you're curious about my art, here is a link! https://herearedragons.uk/
Also, I am a martial arts enthusiast. I have been practising them since I was a teen. For the past 10 years, I have been studying Judo, which I help coach in the dojo (club) I'm part of.
Apart from that, there are not enough hours in the day for me! Except for video-games of course, there may not be enough hours of sleep but there is always time for a video-game. I prefer RPGs, turn-based games are my favourite. From Final Fantasy Tactics and Fallout 1-2 to XCOM (Firaxis), Battle Brothers and Divinity Original Sin.
Which sort of projects and events would you be interested in participating in?:
Raiding it is something I used to do back when Molten Core was in fashion. I have tried again in BFA and I enjoy it - I'd like to get back into it.
I like the challenge of the Mythic+ dungeons - I'm up for that too.
PvP - I am always up for. In a chilling way, I'd love to do some regular Arenas. I do BGs all the time.
What made you apply to join this guild? What is it about us that attracted you and what do you want from us as a guild?:
Since Vanilla I was in the same guild. A Spanish speaking guild which is now more or less dead. I know a lot of their members have moved on to other games. I keep in touch with most of them - I know them personally.
This expansion I wanted to belong to a group, to be part of something and not playing WoW like a single-player game anymore. I prefer tight communities where I can know everyone by name and I'm not a number (I use the same principle when applying for a job!)
So I did some research. Starting the expansion I joined a PvP game (hoping to do some Rbgs), suffice to say the atmosphere wasn't for me - homophobia and racism I'm not tolerant of.
Then I joined this great new guild, people were lovely, plenty of camaraderie with lots of humour. We did some raids rather successfully (considering the small numbers), but the Guild Leaders had a change of heart and left the guild.
So here I am, applying to a well-established guild - as someone mentioned on a previous application, the fact that you are asking all these questions means that you care (and here for the long run).
How did you hear about us?:
Argent Dawn forums.
If you are interested in our raiding project, what sort of raiding experience do you have?:
Any extra raiding comments? Have you raided in a previous expansion?:
Yes, I raided with a group called Black Order. It was many moons ago, when you had to expend the whole day wiping on a boss in Molten Core to learn the strategy :)
Hey Manuel, thanks for your application!
Your application looks pretty complete which is great! Have you taken a look at our recruitment system involving how initiates become full members?
This can be found here: http://sevenserpents.wowlaunch.com/sections/about-the-guild/rules-and-ranks/?gid=531665
My questions to you are:
What made you pick the hunter class and is that what you played back when you raided molten core?
What is your most memorable moment during your time playing WoW?
Thanks, and best of luck with your application!
Love your art-style btw :D
Thank you, James!
Re-reading my post I have to apologise for the grammar - I shouldn't write stuff too early on a Sunday!
Yes, I have read the recruitment system and the rules, which I like.
Regarding your other questions:
Q. What made you pick the hunter class and is that what you played back when you raided molten core?
A. My main was a Warrior back then, I was a tank (wait for the 3rd sunder, people!). But the Hunter was the first character I created in Argent Dawn. I played a Paladin in Beta. I have skipped a couple of expansions and played most classes but my Warrior and my Hunter always draw me back. Of the Hunter I like the mobility and his set of tools. In BFA what I'm liking of the Survival is that he can go in and out, playing melee or ranged (with limitations of course) as it suits.
Q. What is your most memorable moment during your time playing WoW?
A. I think there are 2 parts to this question. First, without WoW I wouldn't have met so many wonderful people I call friends now. Some of them may have moved game but the friendship remains. Second, I'm trying to pick a single memory, but they are all flying around my head... Killing Ragnaros, what a team effort. Fighting the Horde in Southshore for hours, where the time has gone? Getting the Lieutenant-Commander title with my warrior, what a proud moment. Exploring the game for the first time... I could go forever.
If I get a gold coin for everytime someone mentions... I'd have bought the Brutosaur mount by now! Hah!
More often than Fawlty Towers references, what I get a lot is people misspelling my name: Manual, Emmanuel, Manwell, etc. And don't get me started with my surname :P
I have to say, me gusta mucho your application.
Honestly, I don't have a lot to add other than 'please give this guy a trial' as I think you've pretty much nailed the guild ethos on the head.
So I'm curious on something more than anything. I play a Demonology Warlock, and like Survival Hunter, we were deeply unpopular since our revamps in Legion and again in BfA. What made you want to go for Survival in this expansion as opposed to the simpler specs such as Beast Mastery? I ask you this as many people have asked why I don't play Affliction.
Secondly, do you think there is anything missing from our events? Could you envisage yourself adding something new? It's not a requirement, but we're always looking for more ideas.
Finally, what do you think of Yorkshire and England generally? I mean, Yorkshire is pretty much a country!
Hey, thank you Xander!
I was Marksman for most of Legion, I didn't dislike Survival but I was already playing a Warrior as a main - why another melee, right? Then the pre-patch happened. I was so disappointed with MM! It was also time to pick a class to start levelling up and I was umming and erring which one.
So, I read some good comments about the "new" Survival and I thought: what the heck, let's try it. Went in with zero expectations and just like that, I fell in love with the gameplay. I had my 'melee fix' but also I could keep my range. Going in an out the fight as I needed it. Best thing, I could still have my pet.
Regarding the events, from what I can see, I can't think of anything else to add right now - but if I have an idea I won't be shy to suggest it!
Now, about Yorkshire. I live in the countryside and I love it. Green hills everywhere, the scenery is fantastic. I am 1 hour away from Leeds on the train and about 40 min from Manchester, so commuting is not that bad. I have made good friends and I feel part of the community - even as a minority. In general, I like the English way to do things. For example, how orderly the people are when driving and how friendly the public services are. Some folks may disagree with me, but to them I say: You need to travel more. Experience the chaos in South American roads and then moan to me again about English drivers :P
Culturally I feel there are no major differences. The biggest one perhaps is that in Latin American countries there is no concept of personal space! Hugs and kisses all the time - and people seem to be a lot more cheerful. It may be the weather!
Hi, Ye-roon :)
I had a favourite colour as a kid, it was green. If you ask my sisters, they would say my favourite colour is black, because my wardrobe is predominant in dark colours. The truth is, and maybe this is because of my background, I don't have a favourite colour as such, I believe there is an adequate colour depending on the occasion.
As for why is the Dark Iron the best allied-race. Well, they are Dwarfs but better: meaner, tougher, fiery, with glowing red eyes that are like looking at the heart of a volcano :D
Their voices sound better too, and look at the Heritage Armour! I'm currently levelling a Paladin - that Darkforge Ram is something else!
Thing is... I love dwarfs (spelt as in Warhammer): I have done a few: https://herearedragons.uk/illustration/dwarfs/
Regarding Survival on WoD, I can't say because I skipped that expansion, I was totally burned out.
I only have one question: Our best DPS player in the guild mains a character names Leeshdhun. If we payed you lots and lots of money, would you immortalize them in art?
PS: Youre portfolio is amazing!
PPS: Glad to see someone else of a more proper age apply ;)
Hi Manuel! Thanks for your patience while we reviewed your application. I haven't commented so far as I've had a pretty hectic week but I'm glad to see the other guild members and officers have stepped in! With that in mind, I’m happy to announce that we’ve decided to accept you into our guild! Message myself or another office in-game for an invite.
You may wish to join our Facebook group at the page below, but this is entirely option:
If you have any questions regarding your trial, please feel free to ask. Also, please note that if you need to take time away from the game at any point during your trial it is important that you inform an officer as soon as possible so that this does not adversely affect your trial.
